Initiation and the Big Con
For your consideration...

In a con game, everyone knows their part in a structured drama except for the mark.

When being initiated into a secret society, everyone knows their part in a structured drama except for the initiate.

Con games have a decided advantage in the illusion created: they happen in the real world, seamless with reality. The mark may never know that s/he was deceived.

The initiate knows s/he is being initiated. The initiation happens within the bounds of the lodge. The initiation rituals of most orders have lost their power.

The initiate does not need to know s/he is an initiate to experience initiation. Initiation, when brought into the model of the con, happening seamlessly with the rest of life, is greatly empowered.

I find it probable that Neurocam knows all of these things.

Neurocam fits the mold for what I would expect an organization seeking to spread initiation in this manner would look and operate like.

An email from Iocus Severus to Graham is relevant. For those too lazy to click, I quote the following from Graham's blog.

Consider this: In 1617, alchemist Michael Maier (1566-1622) published his book "Jocus Severus" in which he deals with certain processes of initiation, couched in the languages of satire and allegory.

And this: In your journal entry, dated January 29, 2004, you published an email you received from Robert Henley. I quote,

"As a kind of introduction (we prefer this term to *initiation*) we would like to set you an assignment. ...It is an important part of *a process you will soon come to understand.*" (my asterisks)

The Theatre of Magic by Ray Sherwin
is good reading on this subject.

Neurocam & Mind Games

Well then it seems that Archavida and Neurocam are one and the same. What better way to throw people a line of mind bending fancy than to create yet another entity and go to extraordinary lengths to deny it's link to you ?

It's not as if anyone asked if Archavida and Neurocam were the same, people just started to post such comments to blogs. Why volunteer something when you were not asked ?

btw: I think Lady J and Brielle Hansen are one and the same. Can someone prove otherwise ?

Every story needs conflict.

Lady J's involvement to try and seek out what Neurocam is all about is for pure publicity. Just like Graham. They, Tript, Graham, and Lady J all know way more than what they come out saying. Look, does this woman have a job? She spends way too much of her time seeking out research. I mean come on. No one behind the velvet curtain is going to leave themselves wide open for you to stumble upon their information so easily. Lady J's problem was that she spoke 'too much'.

We do not have enough information to conclude that. We also do not have enough information to conclude that what you say is false, either.

Nothing is certain regarding Neurocam. Nothing can be; there are too many layers of deception.

This does not mean that some things are not more probable than other things, and I do not find it probable that Lady J knows that much more than she has revealed.

We must be comfortable to work with the information he have, especially when it is ambigous. We must not be eager to jump to one conclusion when the facts could still support either side.

Embrace the maybe state.

Thanks for the link to The Theatre of Magic btw. Found it an interesting read. I've tended to mock occult like practices, as well frankly, they generally sound rediculous. It's interesting to see the similarites between Sherman's take on the ritual side of magick, and that which we all participate in everday without realising it. For instance, the previews before a movie could be regarded as nothing more than a banashing ritual, to help set the mood and help cast us truly into the environment of imagination. There as so many rituals, or custums in our culture that we simply except, but as soon as people set out to manufacture their own rituals, it's seen as obscene or demonic.
What I still can't understand is the aesthetic associated with the occult. Why the dark cloaks, the scary masks, the red, all the red! Why the eerie chanting? Is it a reaction to Catholicism, Anton Le Vey style? I guess playing on our fears is a powerfull psychological device.
If you have any other links or book recomendations, would love it if you could throw them my way.
I tried reading some Aleister Crowley, namely the book of law, got bored two sentences in.

The Book of the Law is a horrible place to start. But, for something relevant from Crowley, read The Initiated Interpretation of Ceremonial Magick, which can be found at http://www.sacred-texts.com/grim/lks/lks03.htm .

And I see that you are already reading Illuminatus! so I'd reccomend you finish it. It must be my favorite work of fiction.

My email address is viewable on my about page; email me if you would like to discuss these things at more length.

Following that link, the page titled SHEMHAMPHORASH has a symbol repeated down the left side of the page. Quite similar to the symbol on the front of my Neurocam badge.
